Welcome to Robin Class Blog

We hope you enjoy our regular posts which will help keep you informed of what the children are doing in school.

Let’s go fly a kite!

We’ve been looking at the story of ‘The three little pigs’ this week and the children have been thinking of ways that ‘the big bad wolf’ could use his strong breath for good instead of blowing the pigs houses down and they came up with ‘to fly kites!’

As it was a windy day, it gave the Robin’s the perfect opportunity to make and test their own kites.

They had great fun using the stapler, hole punch and threading to make their kites and then had a blast flying them out in the gusty weather.

This term…

Ice Baubles

The children have been experimenting with freezing and melting. They filled different vessels with festive foliage, fruits and herbs and topped up them up with water.

They then left them out in our outside area and watched them freeze in the sub zero temperatures- it was very exciting! We then hung them out on the trees and watched them slowly melt in the sun!

Christmas Activities

We have had great fun reading ‘Father Christmas Needs a Wee’ over the last few weeks. The children have completed lots of activities linked to Christmas. They especially loved the Elf station, where they wrapped their own presents. Here are a few pictures of what they have been doing…

The Little Nativity

The children were so amazing. We were so proud of them all. Thank you so much for coming and we hope you enjoyed their performance.

The Little Nativity

The Little Nativity rehearsals are going well and this week we had a photo shoot. All the photos will be available to buy on a disc on the day. I’m sorry if your child was away but there will an individual photo of your child on the disc. Here is an sneaky peek of what you have to look forward too…

Don’t forget the performance is on Wednesday 7th December in the school hall at 9.20 am all family members welcome.

Welly walk

The children loved their first welly walk today. They walked through puddles, collected sticks and even climbed trees. They enjoyed exploring the woods as well as running free on the grass. They can’t wait to go again next week.

Castle building

The children have enjoyed finding out about castles and have enjoyed making them in and out of the classroom.

Trip to

Somerset Rural Life Museum

We are so proud of the Robin and Jay’s behaviour on the trip, particularly after the first week of being full time for the receptions- they were fantastic!

They had so much fun exploring different materials, felting and finding out about what life was like for Britons of the past. They particularly enjoyed the dressing up and walking through an orchard full of sheep! Well done guys!

January 20th 2022

This week has been all about penguins! We read the story of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and we wrote about how the characters felt when they said goodbye to each other. We have also made some fantastic penguins. We painted brightly coloured backgrounds and then made the penguins using card. They all look incredibly sweet and they are all so different. We even have a superhero penguin! The children worked very hard on their creations and we are very proud of them.

October 15th Messy fun!

You may have noticed your child looking a little grubby at the end of the day! Please be assured that they’ve had a great time and learnt lots. This week we mixed shaving foam, paint and glitter, and we also had a go at freeing characters from ice!

Supertato! Oct 8th 2021

We are loving the Supertato stories! I think we will read every single one. Take a look at what the children have been up to…

Hello again! Oct. 1st 2021

Your child should have come home with a full book-bag today. Here’s a reminder of what’s what:

The ‘word time 1’ sheet needs to be practised every day. Once your child has read the sounds and words on this sheet they will be given a new sheet. We will decide at school when they are ready to move on. Please could you make a note in the planner when they have practised the sheet and sign it. You could simply write something along the lines of ‘Practised word time 1’ with your signature or you could add more notes if you wish/have the time. Once your child has reached word time 5 they will also receive a simple book to take home and read. The sounds book has an explanation at the front so please read! The planner will be a record of your child’s reading both at home and at school but we may also use it to write simple messages to you.

Your child also has a Doodlemaths log-in which is on page 15 of their planner. Doodlemaths is a fun app, to be used at home, which helps your child’s mathematical skills.

Please try to hear your child read every day – it really helps with your child’s confidence and ability.

Robin Class have had another fabulous week and we can’t wait for the children to be in full time. Be prepared for a bit of tiredness!
